THE ORC'S OATH, IN FULL
PRIVACY POLICY
Last updated 30 August 2026. This policy covers the Disk Orc app for macOS and this website.
The short version
Disk Orc has no account, analytics or telemetry. Everything it records about your files stays on your Mac and is never uploaded. The direct-purchase edition contacts Lemon Squeezy to validate your licence; that request includes your licence key, Mac name and activation ID, but nothing about your files or patrols.
What Disk Orc reads
When you grant Disk Orc a folder or disk to patrol, it reads file metadata only: names, sizes, kinds, and dates. It does not open, read, copy or inspect the contents of your files. A patrol builds a list of what is on the disk and how big it is, and nothing more.
Disk Orc can only see the folders and disks you explicitly choose through the macOS file picker. macOS grants that access, per folder, through a security-scoped bookmark. It has no access to anything you have not handed it.
What Disk Orc stores, and where
Disk Orc keeps its patrol history — the metadata described above, plus your settings and shield customisations — inside its own sandboxed container on your Mac, under ~/Library/Containers/, in the folder named for the app's bundle identifier.
The direct edition also keeps your licence key and activation record in the macOS Keychain, because the Keychain is the Mac's proper home for credentials.
When you use Tidy or Organise, Disk Orc writes a small recovery journal inside the affected folder or the hoard folder it creates. That journal contains the original and new paths of moved items. It stays on your Mac and is never uploaded.
There is no cloud sync, backup service or remote copy of your storage map. Deleting Disk Orc's sandbox container removes its patrol history and settings. Recovery journals remain beside the files they describe, and Keychain licence data remains until you deactivate or remove it.
Network access: licensing, and nothing else
The direct-purchase edition of Disk Orc makes exactly one kind of network call: licence checks to Lemon Squeezy, our payment and licensing provider, at api.lemonsqueezy.com. This happens when you activate the app with your licence key, occasionally afterwards (roughly monthly) to re-confirm the key is still valid, and if you deactivate the app to move it to another Mac. What is sent: the licence key you typed in, your Mac's name (so you can recognise the activation, e.g. "Stu's MacBook"), and the activation ID Lemon Squeezy issued. What is never sent: anything about your files, folders, disks, patrols or settings — the licensing code is the only network code in the app.
If the check can't reach the internet, the app keeps working; being offline never locks you out of something you've paid for.
The Mac App Store edition does not request the network entitlement at all — macOS itself prevents it from opening any outbound connection. Apple handles its licensing.
Neither edition contains analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, advertising identifiers or third-party SDKs of any kind.
What Disk Orc changes
Disk Orc never deletes anything on its own. Moving an item to the Trash always takes an explicit, confirmed action from you, and items go to the Trash rather than being erased. Tidy and Organise move files between folders and offer an immediate undo while the operation remains open in the app. They never overwrite an occupied destination.
This website
diskorc.com is a static site hosted on Cloudflare Pages. There are no cookies, no analytics scripts and no trackers. Cloudflare processes standard server request logs (such as IP address and user agent) to serve the site and protect it from abuse, as described in Cloudflare's privacy policy. We do not have access to an analytics profile of you and do not build one.
Purchases
If you buy Disk Orc directly from this site, the checkout, payment, download delivery and licence key are all handled by Lemon Squeezy, acting as merchant of record. They process your payment details and email address to complete the sale and send you your licence key; we never see or store your card details. If you buy through the Mac App Store, Apple handles the payment under Apple's privacy policy, and we receive only anonymised sales reports that do not identify individual buyers.
Your rights
We run no Disk Orc account server and hold no copy of your storage map, so there is nothing for us to export, correct or delete on your behalf. The app's history and settings live in its sandbox container; Tidy and Organise recovery journals live beside the affected files; licence data lives in Keychain. If you bought directly, Lemon Squeezy holds the purchase record as merchant of record. Requests about that purchase data go to them, and we'll gladly help you make one.
Children
Disk Orc is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children. It collects no personal data from anyone, of any age.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date at the top. Material changes to how the app handles your data would also be described in the app's release notes.
